From Vocabulary.com: ”To wheedle someone is to “charm” that person, though it’s a little more on the “suck up to” side than it is charming.”

Example:
“When fishing for leads, an honest compliment may warm a stranger up to conversation, but don’t try and wheedle them into taking your card.”
