Building Your Business on the Eternal

Be Like Amazon book coverThere’s a very good piece in Mashable this week which we thought deserved it’s own section in Tuesday Tactics today. It’s called “How to build your business on what’s not going to change” and it provides a nice counterpoint to last week’s Great Read Roundup on tracking disruption.

The article centers on a new book, “Be Like Amazon: Even A Lemonade Stand Can Do It.” It details the “constants” in business which Amazon has consistently leveraged to grow. A little wisdom from Bezos goes a long way to shift your thinking when it comes on how to build a great company (or career):

“I very frequently get the question,” Bezos has famously noted, “‘What’s going to change in the next 10 years?’ I almost never get the question: ‘What’s not going to change in the next 10 years?’ And I submit to you that that second question is actually the more important of the two.’”

At the core? Four fundamentals: (1) customer centricity, (2) a culture of innovation, (3) corporate agility, and (4) continuous optimization. Learn a little more about what’s never going to change in this piece, including a great reading list for expanding your knowledge:
