The Closing Word: Jejune

The Closing Word: JejuneThis week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.

This week’s closing word:

jejune

Pronounced: (jeh-JOON)

Adjective:
1. lacking interest or significance or impact
2. displaying or suggesting a lack of maturity
3. lacking in nutritive value

From Vocabulary.com: “Basically jejune means lacking substance. It originally comes from the Latin word jejunus, which means “fasting,” so when something is jejune, it’s figuratively empty — devoid of intellectual nourishment.”

Example:
“Avoid writing a jejune bio full of business buzzwords. Instead, share your personal story in your authentic voice.”
