Scott’s Thoughts: Rekindle Your Fire

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”

Albert Schweitzer philosopher, physician, musician, Nobel laureate (1875-1965)

Image of candle flame. While it’s true that we advocate communicating with clients and prospects as the most powerful way to market yourself and your services, we would be remiss if we didn’t also encourage you to think about your genuine connection with others as an opportunity to keep yourself refreshed and inspired.

It takes a social person to be authentically engaged in real estate. Those who naturally like people tend to succeed where others lag behind. When you ask people to tell you their stories — why they’re moving, what their goals and dreams are — you aren’t just angling for a listing or buyer representation. At least you shouldn’t be. You should be open to the possibility of a human connection which will not only help you empathize with another person, but potentially inspire you to be better at your work.

As you reach out to people this month, hold in mind that there may be much more in store than your part of a commission. You may just connect with someone who rekindles your fire and reminds you why you love what you do.

Perhaps if you find your inner fire going out, take a look at how well you’ve kept on top of your efforts to connect with others. If you find it lacking, could it be the very reason your own fire is dim?
