This week’s closing word: proprietary

Pronounced: (pro-PRY-uh-tare-ee)

Adjective:

1. Of or relating to an owner or ownership
2. (Of a product) marketed under and protected by a registered trade name
3. Behaving as if one were the owner of someone or something

Synonyms:
possessive – possessory – patent

NOTE: ”Proprietary” was one of the most looked-up business words online in 2012, according to Merriam-Webster.

Examples:

“Be wary of agents who tell you they have a proprietary process for marketing your home, especially when they won’t share it with you.”

“Some sellers still feel a touch proprietary about their old home, even after closing.”
